The Shepherd's Cottage

Irish Dream Cottage

“UNBELIEVABLE” My wife and I stayed at the Shepherd's Cottage. The weather was great and this home is simply AMAZING. It's the last house of a dead end road, surrounded on three sides by beautiful mountains. A small stream runs down from them past the house. Sheep were nearby all the time, and there is a small duck pond. Idyllic is the word that comes closest to explaining this place. Now it won't be for everyone. It is about 20 minutes to drive to the town of Sneem. The nearest neighbour, Joan, the caretaker, is about a mile up the road. It is by itself. After we arrived and got settled in, I found my wife sitting on a bench in the yard with tears in her eyes. I asked what was wrong, she said "It's so beautiful here". Unfortunately, our schedule and urge to explore did not leave us much time to enjoy the cottage itself. A mistake I hope to rectify in the future. There are 3 very nice bedrooms. One has it's own bath, the other two share one. The bedroom we chose was #3 on the Irish Dream Cottage website. It did not have a bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. The kitchen was pretty impressive. Well laid out and furnished. Plenty of cooking utensils. The living area was nice with a fireplace, which we made use of every night. There was another building on the premises. It houses some gym equipment, a ping pong table, and laundry facilities. About a week before we arrived I emailed the owner and asked if it would be possible to have a bottle of champagne in the refrigerator when we arrived. Not only was it there but a plate of chocolate covered strawberries as well. Nice touch. (Thanks Joan) I will stop now. This place is special. And the rates are reasonable. It would be great for a couple, a couple of couples, or a family. I hope to stay here again on my next trip to the Emerald Island. One other thing. When you drive out from the cottage, you come to a + in the road. Take the left turn and drive up Ballaghbeama Gap. Absolutely beautiful. You will eventually get to Waterville if you take the correct turns.

Just to say what a great time we all had, enjoying the countryside, sheep and tranquility. We thought the cottage was lovely and made use of all the excellent facilities. Joan was so nice and also very helpful and the children quickly made friends with all her dogs. Ireland may not have the hot weather but it has the warmest people. A real achievement to restore the cottage to such a high standard and certainly the best holiday rental property we've ever had the pleasure of staying at. Thank you!

I'm in need of a complete chill out away from the pressures of work and business, I found the Shepherd's Cottage whilst searching for somewhere to stay in my favourite part of the world. Why did I not find it years ago! I have had the most relaxing week for a very long time in a beautiful cottage and a beautiful and inspiring location. I have achieved my chill and am ready but not willing! to go back and join the rat race - I will be back. (with the wife next time)

We can honestly say this cottage was a dream come true. We loved EVERYTHING ABOUT IT, the grand view, the sheep, the decor, the friendly greeting, the wood stove, the comfy bed, the gates! The road to the cottage, the list could go on and on! During our stay we visited the Sneem, Killarney national park, Waterville, we loved it all. The beauty of it all was that we got to return to our romantic cottage in God's Pocket!!! Thanks so much for this great gift, we thoroughly enjoyed it and wish we could have stayed longer.

What a beautiful location to spend a weeks holiday - Perfect for getting away from it all! We've had fantastic days out walking through the Black Valley, round Killarney National Park and up the hills outside and it was lovely to come home to a real turf fire in the evening. The cottage was ideal and the beds really comfortable! We really also enyoyed our evening at The Blackwater Tavern with live Irish music and dancing. Thank you Joan for your hospitality and great advice on what to visit. We've had a brilliant week!
