The Shepherd's Cottage is an Irish Dream Cottage. A faithful reconstruction of the old Shepherd's cottage that has stood on this site for more than 150 years. It fell into disrepair and was left derelict for decades. The cottage was bought and reconstructed by the Redmond Family not as a holiday home but as a family home, with all the real home comforts it is not just another anonymous soulless holiday home furnished on a holiday home budget this cottage has had real love poured into it in every detail and visitors experience this when they come to stay, it has a feel of a true home from home. The quality goes far beyond what you would usually ever expect from a holiday home!

The old stone was salvaged and used to build the outside walls and the front garden walls, New slate was sauced to replace the old slate roof in the same size and colour as the original. All the windows and doors were hand made in the traditional way and all hinges and latches were hand made by blacksmiths. Real sand stone flags were laid in the kitchen and hallway floors. Unlike the old derelict house the reconstructed cottage has been built according to modern buildings and has double glazing and electric central heating.

To keep the authentic old character of the cottage it is built in the same design as the old cottage which was known as a long house with rooms off of rooms without a central corridor. The bedrooms and kitchen have high pitched ceilings and not the modern 8ft flat ceilings, giving the rooms that authentic old Irish cottage feel. The rooms have splayed windows with window seats looking out onto the walled garden. Each bedroom is furnished in real Irish cottage style, 2 of the bedrooms have Irish Iron and brass bedsteads and the 3rd has a solid pine carved bed, each room has free standing wardrobes with matching dressing tables and bedside cabinets. The rooms are lit with wall lamps giving the rooms the right ambient lighting for an old cottage. The kitchen is handmade in solid pine by local craftsmen and hand waxed. The sitting room has a cozy feel with a large oak beam and a handmade brick fireplace into which a large stove originally designed by Benjamin Franklin is installed, the stove can be used open as a large open fire or closed for use as a stove.

The entire cottage is designed to conjure up the idyllic Irish Cottage. The Shepherd's Cottage is an Irish Dream Cottage that is certainly not commonly found in Ireland.

The entire cottage is designed to create the right ambience for visitors to enjoy and is a true haven of peace away from the things of the world, a retreat often chosen by artists and writers.
